Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The School of Artistic Initiation affiliated with Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) announced that 14-year-old student María Patricia Valdivieso Uc has won the Third National Drawing and Painting Contest for Children and Youth, "México y su historia," with her painting "El nahual eres tú mismo." The competition’s theme centered on "Las Leyendas de México."
Multiple Works Selected for National Catalog
Ernesto Santiago Martínez Cuéllar, Director General of the Municipal Institute of Culture and Arts in Playa del Carmen, revealed that in addition to Valdivieso’s award, 19 other artworks by students from the school were chosen for inclusion in INBAL’s national catalog across various categories.
"Alongside María Patricia, we have María Ximena Morales Ruiz, Nicolás Santoyo Zumárraga, Samantha Leveille Blanco Moreno, Iris Paola Hernández Sánchez, Aleah Jazmín Propst Zaragoza, Alma Tonatzin Maza Blancarte, and Giulana Danielle Sosa de los Santos, whose paintings will also be featured in this nationally recognized publication," Martínez Cuéllar stated.
Additional Recognition in "China en mi imaginación" Contest
Twelve artworks by young artists from Playa del Carmen were also selected in the twelfth edition of the "China en mi imaginación" contest, themed "La Nao de China." The submissions stood out among 408 entries nationwide.
The recognized students include Nicolás Córdova Flota, Jude Lennon Denault Mora, María Jimena Morales Ruiz, Nicolás Santoyo Zumárraga, Samantha Leveille Blanco Moreno, Aleah Jazmín Propst Zaragoza, Allison Michele Contreras Hernández, Alma Tonatzin Maza Blancarte, Khaleesi Dávalos Morales, María Patricia Valdivieso Uc, Natalia Flores Gotay, and Giullana Danielle Sosa de los Santos.
A Year of Artistic Achievements
Martínez Cuéllar highlighted that these accomplishments add to the successes of other local talents, such as violinist Priscila Sánchez Gamboa, who now performs with the Mexican Children’s Symphony Orchestra (OSIM), and Jude Lennon Denault Mora, winner of the First Biennial of Children’s Graphic Art "Rayar, un mundo mejor con imaginación."
The achievements underscore the thriving artistic development among Playa del Carmen’s youth in 2025.
