Cancún, Mexico — The municipal government of Benito Juárez has ordered the immediate closure of the Cataluña real estate development in Cancún for operating irregularly and lacking the necessary permits. Mayor Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña announced the action on her social media accounts, stating that the subdivision violated urban planning regulations and housing marketing laws.

Development Operated Without Required Permits

The Cataluña project, promoted on social media as an investment opportunity, did not possess municipal or state authorizations for its sale or promotion. In response, the Benito Juárez City Council proceeded with its closure.

“We have shut down the irregular development ‘Cataluña,'” Peralta stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “We are working in a coordinated manner for an orderly and responsible growth of Cancún. This subdivision was closed for lacking the necessary permits and authorizations for its sale and promotion.”

Authorities Urge Public to Verify Developments Before Investing

Mayor Peralta emphasized her administration’s commitment to ensuring orderly urban expansion and called on residents to verify the legality of any real estate project before making financial commitments. The municipal government has made available the WhatsApp number 998 205 1579 for inquiries or reports of irregularities.

The closure reinforces the municipal government’s pledge to protect buyers and enforce proper urban planning standards in Cancún.

The Cataluña shutdown underscores ongoing efforts by local authorities to curb illegal developments and maintain regulatory compliance in one of Mexico’s most prominent tourist destinations.
