Mexico's tourism industry is set to receive a significant uplift with the introduction of 'The Great Getaway'. This initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services, and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur), is being dubbed as the "Black Friday" of the tourism sector. The event, scheduled to run from May 30 to June 1, 2025, is designed to stimulate the domestic market, generate employment, support small and medium businesses, and endorse sustainable tourism.
Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, the head of Sectur, urged all stakeholders in the tourism industry to participate in this strategy, which promises economic and social benefits. "This is a fantastic opportunity to boost prosperity in our communities and showcase the splendor of Mexico as a tourist destination. I encourage everyone to explore and appreciate the beauty of our country," she announced at a press conference.
During 'The Great Getaway', travelers can expect to find discounted rates on various modes of transportation including land, air, and sea, as well as on the Maya Train and its associated hotels. The event will also offer discounts on accommodations, restaurants, guided tours, museums, and a variety of tourist experiences. From April 15, tourism service providers can register on the official websites www.lagranescapada.com.mx and www.gob.mx/sectur to upload their offers and promotions, which will be validated and incorporated into the event's digital platform.
Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, president of Concanaco Servytur, noted that this initiative, inspired by the success of Black Friday, aims to stimulate domestic tourism through discounts and exclusive packages. "To date, 350 companies from the sector have already signed up, and we anticipate many more will seize this opportunity to reinvigorate the country's tourism economy," he stated.
