Fishermen in Puerto Juárez are grappling with challenging southerly winds. As March concludes, 17 beaches in Quintana Roo are grappling with an excess of seaweed drift.
The report indicates that various regions, including Tulum, Puerto Morelos, Riviera Maya, Cancún, and Cozumel, are experiencing this issue. Cozumel Island, in particular, has recorded 12 beaches with an excessive amount of seaweed drift.
Predictions suggest that by 2025, up to 80,000 tons of seaweed could arrive. Satellite imagery shows the seaweed drift along the Quintana Roo coasts, anticipated to continue until at least April 5th.
The southerly winds are expected to impact states across the Yucatán Peninsula. The beaches of Tulum, Riviera Maya, Puerto Morelos, Riviera Cancún, and Cozumel are among the most affected.
