The General Director of Museums and Heritage for the state government, Fidencio Briceño Chel, has announced plans to bolster Mayan culture in museums. The aim is to promote the Mayan Renaissance and to enhance the language, culture, and identity of the Mayan people through museum exhibits and programs.

Chel explained that the Museum Network, which includes over 50 museums, is being revitalized to ensure that community activities are accessible in Mérida and vice versa. He also mentioned that the Night Museums program is ongoing. This November, the Museum of Song was featured, and in December, the Grand Museum of the Mayan World will be highlighted.

Chel suggested that the Grand Museum of the Mayan World's feature might coincide with its anniversary on December 21st, which is also the National Day of Mayan Culture. He emphasized that the goal is for museums to be more than just exhibition spaces. They are also to be venues for other activities and to provide new opportunities for artists, promoters, and the general public.

Chel stressed the importance of not only promoting what is done in museums but also creating spaces for diverse activities, such as seminars, workshops, and meetings for language and culture. The ultimate goal is to promote Mayan identity and culture in all 106 municipalities.
