Zapopan, Jalisco — Joan Amor Reyna Mendoza, a 20-year-old woman, has been reported missing by her family after traveling from Quintana Roo to Zapopan, Jalisco, under the premise of a job offer as a draftsman. The case has raised concerns among authorities and relatives, who suspect a potential pattern of deception targeting young job seekers.
Family Reports Disappearance After Job Offer
Eduardo Alejandro Pérez Mendoza, Joan’s brother, held a press conference detailing the circumstances of her disappearance. According to him, Joan was contacted by an individual posing as an architect who offered her employment in Jalisco. Despite warnings from acquaintances, she boarded a Viva Aerobus flight on July 5 at 9:15 p.m., arriving in Guadalajara around 11:30 p.m.
Her last known contact was with her mother shortly after landing, during which Joan mentioned poor signal before abruptly ending the call. She has not been heard from since.
Similar Case Raises Alarm
During their independent investigation, Joan’s family discovered another disappearance under nearly identical circumstances in Zapopan. In that case, a young man from Monterrey traveled to Jalisco after being recruited by a supposed architect and vanished upon arrival. The parallels between the two incidents have heightened fears of a coordinated scheme exploiting job seekers.
Authorities Issue Search Alert
The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office issued a missing persons bulletin on July 8, describing Joan’s last known attire: a black blouse, white pants, pink sneakers, gold hoop earrings, and a necklace with a cross pendant. The case has since been transferred to the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office, as the disappearance occurred within its jurisdiction.
Joan’s family has urged authorities to expedite the investigation and called on the public to share the search notice widely. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact emergency services at 911 or the state prosecutor’s office.
