Yucatán, Mexico — Yucatán is experiencing an unprecedented wave of femicides never before seen in the state.

In 13 days, four femicides have been recorded, something that had not occurred since the crime was classified as such in 2013.

This means that, on average, during the last two weeks of December there has been one femicide every 78 hours, an abnormal situation for a state with low incidence of this crime and with the lowest homicide rates in the country.

Officially, Yucatán reached the figure of 11 femicides, which represents a 57% increase compared to last year, since, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, 7 femicides were recorded in 2024.

However, the situation is even more alarming if we consider that civil society groups have a figure of 15 femicides so far in 2025, which represents a 114% increase compared to last year.

Last night, the body of Naomi, a 25-year-old young woman who had been missing since December 10, was found. Everything indicates that the alleged perpetrator would be her romantic partner. As always happens, the Prosecutor’s Office has maintained total secrecy about the matter.

Today, the Secretary of Public Security reported the arrest of Adrián Oswaldo, alias “Oso,” accused of the femicide of an 88-year-old woman.

On December 3, the subject entered the woman’s property, located in downtown Mérida, where he attempted to sexually abuse the victim; however, she resisted, which led the subject to brutally beat her. She was hospitalized for 10 days, until she died on December 13.

Civil society groups blame the government due to the lack of programs for the prevention of violence and protection of women.
