Mérida, Yucatán — Elements of the State Public Security Secretariat (SSP) rescued seven children, ranging in age from 11 years to six months, who were found alone in a residence west of Mérida.
The situation involving the minors stems from a family conflict, which on this occasion led their mother to report them as missing and accuse their father of their abduction. The woman, originally from Alaska, United States, as is her romantic partner, filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office stating that the couple had argued and that he had physically assaulted her, for which she requested a protective order from that authority.
She recounted that on that day, after the legal proceeding, she returned to her home in the port of Chelem, Progreso, but her children were no longer there. The following day, she learned they might be at a hotel north of Mérida, but she was denied information at that location.
Consequently, she requested assistance from the State Public Security Secretariat and the State Attorney General's Office. Investigations and citizen reports located the minors at a residence in the Residencial Solana subdivision.
Personnel responded to the property, including officers from the Western Sector, elements of the Specialized Unit for the Prevention of Family and Gender-Based Violence (UNIPREV), paramedics, and State Investigation Police (PEI).
The children were transported to the SSP building to be reunited with their mother and for the relevant legal procedures to be initiated with the competent authorities.
