Valladolid, Yucatán — The Secretariat of Tourism Promotion (Sefotur) has launched the regional campaign “Conociendo Yucatán, desde Valladolid” in Valladolid, aimed at encouraging residents and visitors to explore the natural attractions, cultural richness, and gastronomy of Yucatán, starting from this Magic Town.
With nine routes, the initiative motivates more inhabitants and residents to rediscover the state, enjoy its heritage, and stimulate the economy of neighboring communities, beginning in Valladolid.
In the context of the upcoming winter holiday period, Sefotur presented the campaign to representatives from the hotel and restaurant sectors, municipal authorities, and media. Darío Flota Ocampo, head of Sefotur, explained that this campaign arises from the initiative of Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, who has prioritized boosting regional tourism in the State Development Plan to bring economic and social benefits to every municipality and community.
During his address, the official emphasized that Valladolid and its neighboring municipalities have the conditions to consolidate as a strategic point for exploring the eastern part of the state.
He recalled that this area has 99 hotels and 1,729 rooms, in addition to a wide gastronomic, artisanal, cultural, and nature-based offering that allows visitors to create comprehensive experiences during their stay.
The “Conociendo Yucatán” campaign integrates nine thematic routes that connect cenotes, archaeological zones, living culture, community tourism, gastronomy, adventure, and natural attractions: Cenotes of X-Can, Community Tourism, Traditional Flavor, Adventure in Valladolid, Echoes Underground, Ancestral Journey, Eastern Coast, Wonders of the Maya World, and History and Color. Each route seeks to promote complete circuits that generate more balanced economic spillover in the region.
Flota Ocampo invited attendees and the general public to consult these routes on the Yucatán Travel platform, available at www.yucatan.travel, where each person can design their own itinerary of activities and tours in the “Regions” section.
As part of the event, the initial launch of the “Rutas Mágicas de Color” program was carried out previously. This initiative aims to dignify urban spaces, strengthen cultural identity, and enrich the tourist experience through artistic interventions on traditional facades.
In this first stage, Valladolid will have the restoration of 8,000 square meters of colonial architecture, in a joint effort between the Secretariat of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, the State Government through Sefotur, the Valladolid City Council, the company Comex, and the civil association Corazón Urbano, with active participation from the community.
The head of Sefotur highlighted that this project represents much more than painting facades, as it symbolizes collaboration, teamwork, and the conviction that tourism should positively transform the lives of those who inhabit the destinations.
He noted that the sum of efforts between government, private initiative, and society reinforces the sense of belonging and improves the urban image for the benefit of both visitors and residents of Valladolid.
In the presidium were the municipal president of Valladolid, Homero Novelo Burgos; the president of the Municipal Business Coordinating Council, Manuel Navarrete Correa; the president of the Hotels and Hostels Association of the demarcation, Víctor Sánchez González; as well as the Undersecretary of Tourism Promotion, Elizabeth Cole Guerrero, and the Undersecretary of Sustainable Tourism Development, Raúl Alejandro Paz Noriega, both from Sefotur.
