Yucatán Boosts 29 Cooperatives with Training and Technology

Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena speaking at cooperative professionalization program ceremony

Mérida, Yucatán — Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena presided over the closing ceremony of the first edition of the Cooperative Professionalization Program, which provided training, technical support, and tools to 29 cooperatives to promote their economic autonomy and consolidate their productive and social development.

During the ceremony, the state leader presented representatives of the cooperatives with their participation certificates, along with a kit consisting of a laptop and a Mercado Pago terminal, with the aim of supporting them in improving their administrative management, modernizing their commercial operations, and gaining greater clarity in their financial processes.

“Today I want to tell you as Governor that we deeply believe in you, that we will continue to support every group that has initiative, that has the desire to move forward and grow for the well-being of all members. Cooperativism is that, the strength of us over the selfish I, the miracle of turning individual efforts into shared prosperity, it is knowing that everyone contributes, but all members win,” stated Díaz Mena.

In this sense, the head of the state Executive reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting cooperatives with accompaniment and in the search for financing so they can grow. As evidence of this, several of them had the opportunity to participate in the Yucatán Xmatkuil Fair 2025, where they showcased their products and connected with new clients and distributors.

“Today more than ever, I tell you: the spirit of cooperativism is this way we Yucatecans have of walking together, uniting ideas hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder and wills so that no one is left behind. In Yucatán we have learned for generations that, when a community organizes itself, when women and men work together, there are no dreams that cannot be achieved. Cooperativism is a way of life, it is trusting and respecting each other,” added the Governor.

In his turn, the head of the Secretariat of Economy and Labor (Sety), Ermilo Barrera Novelo, indicated that this program responds to the instruction and vision of Governor Díaz Mena that shared prosperity reaches everyone through social, solidarity, and cooperative economy.

He highlighted that the intention is to provide skills, professional tools, and aptitudes so that, as cooperative leaders, they can move the entire community forward, since the vocation of a cooperative is not only to generate economic value, but to ensure that its members and their families live well.

On behalf of the 29 cooperatives benefited by this scheme, the representative of the “Alma Tekiteña” cooperative, Jessica Noemí Acosta Noh, stated that this opportunity is an embrace for artisans, producers, and farmers, for which she thanked the Governor for promoting well-being and shared prosperity in the communities.

This program aims to strengthen the business and social management of participating cooperatives, promoting sustainable, solidarity practices and organizational models that contribute to strengthening the social fabric, as well as consolidating the social economy in different municipalities of the state.

From November 3 to 6, training sessions were held in the municipalities of Mérida, Tizimín, Tekax, Celestún, Izamal, and Sinanché, where members of the cooperatives participated in formative sessions on cooperative leadership, social entrepreneurship, local market strategies, as well as gender equality and community participation, providing them with tools to improve their internal organization and productive positioning.

Present were the president of the Board of Government and Political Coordination of the State Congress, Wilmer Monforte Marfil; local deputy Naomi Peniche López; the regional director of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), Mayra Patricia Mendoza Urcelay; and the representative of Nacional Financiera (Nafin) Southern Region, Víctor Hugo Zamora Arellano.
