Motul, Yucatán — Authorities from the university, state, municipal, military, educational, and social sectors gathered at the Main Plaza of the municipality of Motul for an emotional ceremony to commemorate the legacy of Felipe Carrillo Puerto on the 151st anniversary of his birth.
The illustrious figure, recognized for his fight in favor of social justice, education, and equality for the Maya people, has a legacy that lives on as a symbol of effort, equality, and the dignity of the Yucatecan people, stated the Rector of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), Carlos Alberto Estrada Pinto.
During his address, the Rector stated that remembering Felipe Carrillo Puerto is to keep alive the memory of a visionary man who understood that social progress is only possible through justice, equality, and education.
"Carrillo Puerto dreamed of a university of the people and for the people, an institution that would democratize access to knowledge. Today, UADY continues to honor those principles, forming women and men committed to the common well-being," he indicated.
Estrada Pinto also thanked Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena for his support of higher education, especially for the Renacimiento scholarships, which allow young people with limited resources to continue their studies.
"This support represents a concrete action in favor of equity and of education as an engine of social mobility," he added.
The event was attended by the head of the Executive, Díaz Mena, who remembered Carrillo Puerto as a symbol of justice, equality, and love for Yucatán.
"The best way to honor his memory is to make real the ideals for which he gave his life: education, equality of opportunity, and the dignity of the Maya people," he expressed.
Díaz Mena highlighted that the Government of the Maya Renacimiento continues to promote programs inspired by the legacy of the Yucatecan hero, such as the Felipe Carrillo Puerto scholarships and the Elvia Carrillo Puerto Mujeres Renacimiento cards, in recognition of the fundamental role of women in the social transformation of the state.
"Felipe Carrillo Puerto taught us that history is written by peoples who do not give up. Let us follow his example of honesty, dedication, and love for Yucatán," he concluded.
The municipal president of Motul, Lucio Estrella Canul, highlighted the legacy of Carrillo Puerto as an inspiration for daily work in favor of the people of Motul.
"His example drives us to serve with honesty, closeness, and commitment, promoting actions that generate opportunities for change for all the people of Motul," he expressed.
The ceremony also included the participation of student Giselle Marlene Tec, from the "Felipe Carrillo Puerto" Private High School, who recounted significant moments from the life of the honoree, highlighting his commitment to social justice, secular education, and respect for Maya roots.
With this commemoration, the university community and state authorities reaffirmed their commitment to the values of equity, justice, and education that guided the life of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, the "Red Apostle of the Maya."
