Cancún, Mexico — A young man, whose identity remains unknown, was shot dead on Thursday night at El Crucero intersection in this city.

The armed attack occurred around 8 p.m. on Thursday on 5th Street, between 18th and 22nd Avenues.

According to accounts gathered at the scene, two men traveling on a motorcycle intercepted the victim and shot him directly, hitting him multiple times in the chest before fleeing at high speed.

Alarmed by the gunshots, neighbors called 911, which triggered a “code red” and an intense police mobilization.

Municipal police officers and paramedics arrived at the site and confirmed the man no longer showed vital signs.

Preliminary reports indicated the victim was allegedly involved in construction work.

The area was cordoned off while ministerial agents and criminalistics experts collected ballistic evidence and removed the body.

This murder adds to a series of violent incidents that have occurred in the same area over the past 15 days.

On December 30, 2025, a young man was executed on 18th Street at 3rd Avenue, and on January 1, two more people were injured by gunfire.

Authorities do not rule out that these attacks may be related to disputes between criminal groups involved in drug retailing.
