Young Man Drowns in Artificial Lagoon at Cancún Residential Complex

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A 22-year-old man drowned Tuesday night while swimming in an artificial lagoon at the Dreams Lagon residential complex in southern Cancún, authorities reported.

The emergency call came in around 10 p.m. when someone reported a drowning at the complex, prompting a response from emergency services and officials.

Officers from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit arrived first and were directed to the lagoon where the young man was found unconscious. Paramedics arrived shortly after but were unable to revive him despite resuscitation attempts.

After confirming the death, authorities cordoned off the area to preserve evidence and notified the State Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators from the Ministerial Police took over the scene to process the body.

Witnesses told investigators the victim had been socializing with other young people when he decided to enter the lagoon. After losing sight of him, the group began searching and later found his body floating in the water. They pulled him to shore and called authorities.

The body was transported to the Forensic Medical Service for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. Investigators are collecting witness statements and reviewing surveillance footage from the area.
