Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A young man is in grave condition after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the federal highway in Playa del Carmen. The incident occurred at the entrance to the Playacar hotel complex around 2:30 p.m. local time.

According to witnesses, a gray Jeep with Quintana Roo license plates TX-120-R hit the pedestrian, throwing him more than 50 feet. A cap and a shoe left at the scene underscored the severity of the impact.

Local authorities, including Civil Protection and Municipal Transit officers, responded quickly. Paramedics from the Life ambulance service treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to a hospital, where his condition was reported as critical.

The legal status of the driver remains unclear. Witnesses reported that a high-end SUV arrived at the scene and its driver had a lengthy conversation with the head of Municipal Transit, sparking speculation about possible preferential treatment in the handling of the case.

The heavy traffic on the federal highway prompted authorities to act swiftly. The involved vehicle was towed to an impound lot as investigations continue.
