Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A group of young residents has launched a mobile market project called Mercadito Cerca de Ti to sell basic food staples at affordable prices across the municipality.

Guadalupe Santos, a member of the initiative, said the idea originated in Puerto Aventuras when councilman Juan Arena proposed it as a way to support local families.

The project sources staple goods such as beans, rice, sugar, lentils, and eggs and offers them at reduced prices, Santos explained.

Volunteers travel to different neighborhoods including Colonia Colosio, Villas del Sol, and the Puerto Aventuras municipal office. Future plans include expanding to the Ejido and La Guadalupana areas.
