Cyclist Hit by Police Patrol in Tulum Crash

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A young construction worker sustained injuries after being struck by a patrol vehicle belonging to the Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection (SSPCC) on Saturday morning. The incident occurred on Avenida La Selva, one of the municipality’s main thoroughfares.

Incident Details

The collision took place around 8:00 a.m. Witnesses reported that the worker was riding his bicycle from Kohunlich Street onto Avenida La Selva when he failed to exercise caution while merging into traffic. The patrol unit, identified as number 9292, was unable to brake in time, resulting in the impact.

Although the officer driving the patrol vehicle was preliminarily cleared of direct responsibility, emergency services were mobilized to the scene. Paramedics from a private ambulance provided pre-hospital care to the injured cyclist before transporting him to IMSS-BIENESTAR Hospital.

Witness Accounts and Aftermath

Bystanders confirmed that the young man remained conscious but displayed visible injuries from the collision. The officers involved remained at the scene to assist with procedures and support the victim. The driver of the patrol unit expressed solidarity with the injured worker, pledging to monitor his condition despite being preliminarily absolved of fault.

Authorities reiterated calls for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists to exercise heightened caution, particularly at intersections and high-traffic areas, to prevent accidents endangering public safety.

No fatalities were reported in connection with the incident.
