Mérida, Yucatán — Under the clear skies of the peninsula, the Yucatán Xmatkuil Fair 2025 opened its doors to a Saturday that breathed tradition and celebration. From early in the day, entire families walked the aisles where the aroma of panuchos, marquesitas, and grilled meats mixed with the murmur of visitors and the distant bleating of sheep.
The day progressed with the sounds of children's laughter, visits to artisan stands, and the solemnity of the Regional Sheep Exposition, where female and male white Dorper sheep paraded proudly. The ranches El Chaparral and Chansanlatáh shone with their champion specimens: aged ewes, reserved ewes, and adult ewes, while the young male category also crowned El Chaparral with the top two places.
By nightfall, the fair transformed into a pulsating stage. According to the box office report, 113,447 people had already passed through the turnstiles, all under the watch of an operation that concluded the day with a clean slate. Among discreet ambulances and attentive firefighters, incidents were minor: some cases of dehydration, temporary dizziness, and one preventive transfer that did not compromise any lives.
The true heartbeat of the night arrived with Matute. The band, which had postponed its Friday presentation, burst onto the Montejo Show Center stage enveloped in a play of lights and sound that turned the venue into an electric journey to the 80s and 90s. Thousands of voices sang along to "Maldita Primavera" and "Ni tú ni nadie," while medleys of "Rock en tu idioma" unleashed a wave of nostalgia that was also a celebration. Dancing, shouting, and applause merged into a single vibration that made the fairgrounds tremble.
When Matute ceded the stage, the night had only just begun. AB Quintanilla and his Kumbia Allstars, alongside Proyecto Uno, took over to envelop Xmatkuil in tropical rhythms that set bodies in motion and extended the party into the early hours. Amid lights, music, and tradition, the fair once again demonstrated why it is the beating heart of Yucatán every November.
