Cozumel, Mexico — WT Group International Wild Tours, S.A. de C.V. has submitted an Environmental Impact Statement (MIA) to Mexico’s General Directorate of Environmental Impact and Risk (Dgira) for its proposed “Isla Mía Beach Club” project in Cozumel’s southern hotel zone. The application, published in the 2025 Ecological Gazette No. 17 by the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), outlines plans for the development on two urban plots southwest of the island between the Southern Coastal Highway and the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone.
Project Details and Location
The selected lots for the beach club are identified as:
- Fracción II Lote 11-12, Fracción 3, Lote 2, Chakah
- Fracción 2 Lote 04-44, Interior Palancar Norte
Located at Km 18+244 of the Southern Coastal Highway in Cozumel’s southern hotel district.
The project entails constructing a beach club featuring amenities such as:
- Dining and beverage services
- Swimming pools
- Palapas (thatched-roof shelters), umbrellas, and lounge chairs
- Restrooms, showers, and changing rooms
- Parking facilities
Designs emphasize preserving the natural scenery, using regional materials like palm roofing and stone flooring, while maintaining natural and landscaped green areas.
Public Consultation Period
Semarnat has opened a 30-day public consultation from April 21 to May 20, 2025, inviting stakeholders to submit additional mitigation measures or observations under Article 34 of Mexico’s General Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection Law.
Investment and Funding
The total estimated investment is $11.5 million USD (approximately 238,052,300 MXN), allocated as follows:
- $4 million USD: Land acquisition
- $7.5 million USD: Construction and development
Funding will follow a phased approach based on monthly project demands.
