Cozumel, QR. – During the Fourth Edition of the World Tourism and Trend Summit, Municipal President José Luis Chacón Méndez, accompanied by Mexico’s Undersecretary of Tourism Nathalie Desplas Puel, Quintana Roo’s Secretary of Tourism Bernardo Cueto Riestra, and National FETUR Founding President Margarita Carbajal, officially inaugurated this congress at the Cozumel Island Convention Center.
During the event, it was highlighted that the World Tourism and Trend Summit 2025 is a strategic platform that will allow for the generation of innovative strategies in the face of current tourism challenges, promoting the use of new technologies and artificial intelligence.
Tourism Innovation in Cozumel, Core of the World Tourism and Trend Summit
In his message, José Luis Chacón Méndez welcomed attendees and emphasized that the World Tourism and Trend Summit indicated that events like this strengthen Cozumel’s competitiveness, recognized worldwide for its natural and cultural wealth and the warmth of its people.
For her part, Margarita Carbajal highlighted the importance of diversifying the local economy through sustainable practices, as well as improving collaboration between the public and private sectors. She stressed that the World Tourism and Trend Summit offers a key space to build mechanisms that enhance the tourism value chain.
During his intervention, Bernardo Cueto Riestra emphasized that the sector’s growth should translate into social well-being, through technological accessibility and opportunities for communities. Likewise, Undersecretary Nathalie Desplas Puel, who led the swearing-in of the new delegates of the Federation of Tourism Entrepreneurs (FETUR), underlined that tourism is an economic and social engine for Mexico.
Within the framework of the World Tourism and Trend Summit, a posthumous tribute was also paid to Ángela Carrillo, former Director of Tourism at the Cozumel City Council. The recognition was presented to her sister Patricia Carrillo, highlighting her legacy in the island’s tourism development.
Additionally, a project was announced for Cozumel to host the First International Carnival Congress of Mexico, inspired by the vision of “Carnival 365” promoted by the late official.
With this fourth edition of the World Tourism and Trend Summit, Cozumel and Mexico consolidate their international positioning as destinations committed to sustainability, digitalization, and tourism innovation.
