World Cup Teams Scout Mexican Caribbean Hotels for 2026

Representatives inspecting hotel facilities in the Mexican Caribbean for the 2026 World Cup

Mexican Caribbean — Visits by representatives and organizers of the 2026 Soccer World Cup have intensified in recent days in the Mexican Caribbean, where two hotels were preselected by FIFA as potential concentration sites for various national teams.

Businessman José Chapur of Grupo Palace confirmed that delegates from several countries continue to tour the facilities to evaluate if they meet the technical and operational standards required to host a World Cup team during the tournament.

According to the hotel businessman, these observations include reviews of the rooms, recovery areas, internal logistics, and especially the training zones, which will need adjustments once the federations confirm their choice.

He said that it will be in December when FIFA and the delegations announce which teams will choose to stay in the destination.

“When it is defined who, it will be next month; we have six months for the adjustments. As it is, everything works,” stated the hotelier.

Although the teams will only use the Mexican Caribbean as a practice base, with no exhibition matches scheduled, their presence could generate interaction with guests and an additional attraction for the destination during June and July, months already strong due to vacations.

José Chapur added that Cancún International Airport plays a determining role in the federations’ decision, due to its wide connectivity with participating countries and the World Cup venues in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

Regarding current occupancy, he said that November remains with positive figures, between 85% and 90%, which, he assures, reflects the strength of the destination. “Cancún is alive, Cancún is strong… we must continue to take care of it,” he pointed out.
