Woman Slaps Partner After Rollover Crash in Cancún’s Hotel Zone

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A truck flipped onto its roof in Cancún’s Hotel Zone on Tuesday afternoon after veering off Boulevard Kukulcán and striking a construction worker who was walking on the sidewalk. The crash, near kilometer 6, drew attention when a woman began slapping the man who was driving, believed to be her partner.

According to initial reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and hit a tree. After the crash, the woman began striking the man with her hands, according to videos shared on social media.

Witnesses heard in the videos say the two were a couple. Some claim the woman was driving when the vehicle went out of control. Other accounts say the driver was heading toward downtown when an argument broke out with his partner, and she grabbed the steering wheel, causing him to lose control.

As a result, the truck left the road and plowed onto the sidewalk, hitting a construction worker. The impact threw the man several feet and left him with multiple injuries. The driver could not regain control, and the vehicle came to rest on its roof in front of the Riu Península hotel, prompting a large emergency response.

Private paramedics gave first aid to the injured worker and took him to a hospital. Traffic police cordoned off the area and preserved the scene until investigators arrived. Tourist police took the driver into custody and handed him over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The vehicle was later removed by a tow truck and taken to an impound lot.

The State Prosecutor’s Office will lead the investigation and determine responsibility for the crash.
