Robbery at Puerto Morelos Entrance: What Happened

PUERTO MORELOS, Quintana Roo — A lone robber stripped the victim of cash and a bank card, although he left the victim's cell phone intact; the events occurred as she passed 45th Street.

An assault was reported in the early morning hours when a woman walking alongside the lateral lanes of the federal highway was robbed of her belongings by a subject who intercepted her near the main entrance to the city.

The events occurred around six o'clock yesterday morning, when it was still dark and there was no lighting in this part of the highway, located next to the wall of the vehicular bridge, where there is little vehicle traffic at that hour, in addition to several abandoned properties and vacant lots.

One of the victim's relatives disclosed the situation and explained that his sister-in-law was robbed of cash and her bank card, although she managed to keep her cell phone to communicate with her relatives. The woman was walking along the edge of the federal highway to head towards the main entrance of the city, where she would catch a transport route to her work, when she was intercepted by a criminal.

According to the account given to her relatives, the victim left the street next to the Súper Aki and was walking along the edge of the lateral lanes of the federal highway. At that moment, she felt that someone was following her, so she began to walk faster towards the transport stop located a few blocks ahead. However, upon passing 45th Street, where the sign for the Chilam Balam restaurant is located, the subject moved ahead, intercepted her, and threatened her to demand her money and bank card, before withdrawing along the edge of the federal highway.

Preliminarily, she indicated that the criminal is young and "light-skinned," was wearing a cap, a white t-shirt, and black pants.

Elements of the Municipal Police became aware of the case through a WhatsApp group made up of vigilant neighbors of Puerto Morelos. After the assault, the victim went to her workplace and only notified her relatives about what happened.

The authorities indicated that they will wait for her to file a formal complaint to continue with the investigation.

It is worth noting that this part of the federal highway remains dark, as the lighting system on the central median has been inoperative for several months, a situation that has been constantly reported by workers who travel through the area in the early morning or at night.
