Counterfeit bills reported at a currency exchange in Mérida, Yucatán

Mérida, Yucatán — A woman reported to authorities that she had been deceived by a well-known currency exchange in downtown Mérida after allegedly being given counterfeit bills in exchange.

According to the report, the woman went to a currency exchange located on Calle 60 between 55 and 53 in the city center to exchange some dollars for Mexican pesos. Subsequently, she went to a bank branch located on Calle 64 between 63 and 65 to make a deposit, at which point bank staff informed her that the money was counterfeit.

Faced with this situation, the alleged victim returned to the currency exchange to complain and requested police intervention, which generated police mobilization in the area.

The case was handled with complete secrecy, and it remains unknown whether the woman went to the State Attorney General’s Office to file the corresponding complaint.

It should be noted that during the past year, various reports were recorded about the circulation of counterfeit bills in the city of Mérida.
