Woman Linked to Seven Cancun Robberies Arrested After Confrontation with Police

Police officers detain a woman in Villas Otoch Paraíso, Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Police arrested a woman in the Villas Otoch Paraíso neighborhood who is suspected of involvement in at least seven robberies in Cancun, authorities announced.

The arrest occurred during a preventive patrol in the Benito Juárez municipality. Officers from the Orion Group of the Citizen Security Department, coordinating with federal forces, were patrolling the area when the woman, identified as Elsy del Carmen “N,” suddenly stepped in front of a police vehicle on Niños Héroes Avenue, heading toward 20 de Noviembre Avenue.

The driver had to brake abruptly to avoid hitting her. When officers approached to check on her, she allegedly began insulting them and attempted to physically assault the police personnel.

Officers subdued her following established protocols and took her into custody. She faces charges of disobedience and resisting arrest.

Authorities turned her over to the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office, which will investigate her possible connection to seven open robbery cases in Cancun.

Police continue operations in various areas of Cancun to combat property crimes.
