Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A domestic dispute turned fatal in the Villas del Sol neighborhood of Playa del Carmen when a woman killed her husband after he returned to their home under the influence of alcohol. Authorities reported that the cause of death was asphyxiation.
The incident occurred around 4:30 in the morning on Lechuza de Campanario street at Avenida Cigüeñas. A man identified as Carlos Mario, 36 years old, arrived at his residence intoxicated.
He was met by his wife, Hermelinda ‘N’, 37, who began to argue with him over his continuous drunken behavior. The argument escalated into a physical altercation.
The woman attacked the man with a belt. Hermelinda reported the incident an hour after it happened, stating that she initially thought the man had fallen asleep. When she realized he was not moving, she contacted emergency services via the 911 line.
Upon arrival, authorities confirmed the man had died from asphyxiation. They requested the intervention of personnel from the State Attorney General's Office, as well as the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence. The couple had two minor children and two adult children.
