Mérida, Yucatan — A judge ordered a woman known as “La Patrona,” the wife of a Caborca cartel leader, to stand trial and remain in custody on charges related to a triple homicide in Yucatan earlier this year.
Gabriela Alejandra “N,” 29, alias “La Patrona,” received the ruling from a control judge on Friday. She is the wife of Valerio Bustillos, alias “Monkey Valerio,” the alleged head of a Caborca cartel cell that controls the Belize Free Zone and the border town of Subteniente López in Quintana Roo.
The judge issued the decision based on evidence gathered by investigators from the Yucatan Public Security Department and presented by the State Prosecutor’s Office. The judge denied a request from her defense lawyers for a conditional suspension of the proceedings, finding they did not meet requirements under the National Criminal Procedure Code. The court set a three-month deadline for the completion of the supplementary investigation.
Gabriela Alejandra, originally from Limones in Bacalar municipality, Quintana Roo, faces charges including dangerous attacks against a public servant, bribery, carrying prohibited weapons, drug dealing, and damaging public property.
Authorities accuse her of transporting the weapons used to carry out a triple execution in Dzilam González, Yucatan, at the beginning of the year. She was arrested in Mérida, Yucatan, with weapons and drugs.
Local reports in Chetumal describe her as being well-known for allegedly ordering disappearances alongside her husband, who reportedly operates freely along the border due to an arrangement with the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities allege Valerio Bustillos used his wife to move the weapons to Dzilam González for the triple homicide.
Officials said they cannot provide further details as the investigation continues.
