Mexico — WhatsApp is continuing to innovate to maintain its position as the most used messaging application in Mexico. In its recent update, the platform announced features that include improvements to photos, chat personalization, and the ability to scan documents directly from the application on Android devices, something that was already available on iPhone.

Moving Photos and Personalization

Among the most striking new features are Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android, which allow users to share images with movement and sound for a more interactive experience. Furthermore, the application integrates Meta AI, with which users can generate new themes for chats and personalized backgrounds for video calls using their own photos or videos.

New packs of stickers, more expressive and fun, are also being incorporated, expanding the ways to communicate without the need to write.

Document Scanning from the App

A long-awaited function in Mexico is the document scanning capability, which allows users to crop, save, and send files directly from WhatsApp, facilitating procedures and work without the need for external applications.

The app now offers an improved group search tool: simply search for a contact and the application will show the groups they have in common, simplifying navigation.

Other Recent WhatsApp Improvements

WhatsApp has also implemented:

  • Real-time conversation translation.
  • Rescheduling of video calls.
  • Advanced privacy in chats, with control over read receipts and sensitive data.

The Government of Mexico has taken advantage of these improvements with official chatbots, such as the assistant for migrants repatriated from the United States and the Locatel chatbot for procedures and reports.

The new features began rolling out in September and all users in Mexico are expected to receive them during October 2025, on both iOS and Android devices, although some will arrive progressively depending on the operating system and app version.
