Merida, Yucatan — Canadian airline WestJet will launch a new seasonal direct flight from Calgary to Merida, operating from December 17, 2026, to April 1, 2027, with one weekly frequency.
The route will be the only direct air connection between Calgary and Merida, using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with capacity for 174 passengers. It will complement WestJet’s existing Toronto-Merida service, strengthening the airline’s presence in the Yucatan.
Yucatan Tourism Promotion Secretary Dario Flota Ocampo said Canada is one of the most important international markets for the state, citing visitors’ interest in its cultural richness, climate, cuisine, and landscapes.
“We are confident this alliance will strengthen connectivity between Yucatan and Canada and help increase tourist arrivals during the winter season, benefiting the entire tourism value chain,” Flota said.
WestJet Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer John Weatherill said the addition of Merida to the airline’s winter route network responds to growing Canadian traveler interest in Mexico and the Caribbean.
“These additions respond to the growing demand for travel options to Mexico and the Latin Caribbean, while we sustainably expand our schedule and manage our fleet during the peak winter season,” Weatherill said.
The new route will provide direct access for visitors from western Canada to Merida and the state’s historical, archaeological, gastronomic, and natural attractions.
