Travel agency managers are reporting an increase in online scams targeting tourists. These scams often involve offering travel packages to popular destinations like Cancun for as low as 10,000 pesos. These packages, which include flights, accommodation, and meals for two people, are most likely fraudulent.
Travel experts point out that a trip to Cancun during the high season, staying in a 5-star hotel with meals and flights included, usually costs over 20,000 pesos per person. Therefore, offers significantly cheaper than this are likely to be scams.
Idheanna Gómez Ortiz, director of Idhetravel, advises potential tourists to verify the authenticity of any company offering such promotions. It's essential to ensure that the company exists and that their offers are genuine.
Georgina Duch Carvallo, from Todos a Viajar travel agency, also warns that these types of scams are becoming more prevalent. She reiterates that a trip to Cancun during the high season at a 5-star hotel, including meals and flights, should cost over 20,000 pesos per person. She urges tourists to be skeptical of promotions that seem too good to be true, especially those found on social media, as they are likely scams.
