Volaris and Viva Aerobus Form New Aviation Group

Announcement of Grupo Más Vuelos, the new corporate group formed by Volaris and Viva Aerobus

In an unprecedented move that promises to reconfigure the air map of Latin America, the ultra-low-cost airlines Volaris and Viva Aerobus have formally announced their unification under a new corporate structure called “Grupo Más Vuelos.” This strategic alliance, communicated on December 19, 2025, seeks to consolidate both companies into a single controlling entity to strengthen their competitiveness and expand their international presence.

The creation of this new aeronautical giant responds to the need to generate economies of scale in the face of an increasingly demanding global market. According to the terms of the agreement, the group will be chaired by Roberto Alcántara Rojas, current president of the Viva Aerobus Board. Despite the financial and operational integration at the corporate level, both companies will maintain their commercial brands, independent operating certificates, and their own visual identities, ensuring service continuity for their current passengers.

Impact on the Market and Connectivity

With this merger, the new group would capture approximately 70% of domestic air traffic in Mexico. The main objectives of Grupo Más Vuelos focus on three fundamental axes:

  • Reduction of operational costs: Through fleet optimization and better conditions in aircraft acquisition and leasing.
  • International expansion: Strengthen connectivity to the United States and explore new opportunities in the European market.
  • Competitive fares: Maintain the low-cost model that has characterized both airlines, benefiting users with a more robust route network.

Reactions and Regulation

The announcement has generated an immediate impact on financial markets, where Volaris shares recorded a significant rebound on the Mexican Stock Exchange. For her part, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, described the union as a “very important investment” that will reinforce the capacity of the national air sector.

However, the operation must still overcome important regulatory challenges. The Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) will initiate a comprehensive review process over the next 12 months to evaluate the impact of this market concentration and ensure that consumer rights and free competition in the sector are not compromised.

If the legal procedures are successfully completed, Grupo Más Vuelos will emerge as the dominant player in Mexican skies, marking the beginning of a consolidation stage that seeks to place national aviation at the forefront of operational efficiency.
