Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Universidad Tecnológica de Cancún (UT) has launched a specialized online diploma program aimed at professionalizing people who work in public administration or hope to build careers in the sector, with classes set to begin October 17.

University officials said the program is designed to provide methodological tools that strengthen public service, responding to the need to update training across government offices.

“The university works constantly to respond to the issues and to what is needed today, and right now we are at a moment when we need to support professionalization in order to maintain this closeness with society,” said Elena Múgica Silva, the university’s secretary of outreach. “As a university, it falls to us from the academic side to prepare this type of diploma course, programs that can help us all have a better society.”

The program covers 120 teaching hours split into two phases:

  • A common core of 80 hours, with seven thematic modules on public management and finance.
  • A 40-hour specialization in innovation, governance and public leadership.

The online format is intended to make it easier for participants across Quintana Roo to take part, and organizers said they have seen strong interest in Chetumal. In-person sessions will also be held and streamed, while all classes will be recorded on the digital platform to allow flexible learning.

Múgica Silva said a team of instructors with government experience will guide students through the program, including a final integrating project that participants can apply at their own institutions.

“The best public policy — or the one that is missing — will always be the one that satisfies people’s needs, because many public policies are needed and there are also many issues to address,” said Kenia Domínguez, a member of the instructor team who specializes in public policy design. “Resources are limited and needs are infinite, so it is not always possible to address everything. But what we as public servants, or in this case as instructors, have to teach is precisely that the best public policy is the one you can design to meet society’s needs.”

Registration remains open ahead of the October 17 start date. Organizers said costs are affordable and payment plans are available. Those interested can contact the university directly or visit its Facebook page, @UTdeCancun.
