American tourist drowns at Akumal beach in Mexico

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Sunday afternoon turned tragic in the waters of Akumal, in the municipality of Tulum, where a U.S. tourist lost his life after drowning in front of Playa Caribe Condominiums.

The victim was identified as Joseph, 62, from Missouri. He was assisted by Civil Protection personnel and paramedics.

Despite resuscitation efforts, these were not enough to save his life.

Preliminary reports from the scene indicated no signs of violence were detected.

The death was attributed to a regrettable drowning accident, which now mourns a family and serves as a reminder of life’s fragility in the face of the sea.
