Cancun, Quintana Roo — A US tourist died Thursday night after falling from the 18th floor of a hotel in Cancun’s hotel zone, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 10:49 p.m. at the Breathless hotel on Boulevard Kukulcan, at kilometer 4.5. The woman’s husband, visibly distraught and in tears, told hotel security officers that his wife had done “something terrible,” according to hotel staff.
Security personnel found the woman had fallen approximately 45 meters (about 148 feet) and immediately called the 911 emergency line.
When paramedics arrived, the woman showed no vital signs and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tourist Police cordoned off the area and notified the State Prosecutor’s Office, which took over the investigation. Criminal investigators and forensic experts processed the scene and removed the body, which was taken to the Forensic Medical Service for examination.
The woman’s husband was detained and brought before a state prosecutor for questioning about the circumstances of the death.
