Global Entry Interviews in Cancún Speed Up Travel

U.S. officials conducting Global Entry interviews in Cancún

Cancún, Mexico — On December 4 and 5, U.S. officials will be in Cancún to conduct interviews for the Global Entry program, which expedites entry into the United States for pre-approved citizens.

This is a system operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that allows international travelers a streamlined entry process into the U.S.

José Carlos Olvera Silveira, president of the Caribbean Business Coordinating Council (CCE), reported that this business organization provided facilities for the interviews to take place.

He stated, “We will receive officials from the North American Embassy who will be conducting interviews, which is the final step to obtain Global Entry certification for Mexican citizens who have a visa, have applied to this program, and have been approved. The final step is a personal interview.”

He clarified that this last procedure is usually carried out at airports in the United States, but to facilitate the process for applicants seeking this immigration certification, the interviews will be held at the CCE offices in Cancún.

The application fee is $100, and the membership lasts for five years. To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet specific nationality and age criteria, have no criminal record or serious immigration violations, and pass a rigorous background check by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Minors under 18 years of age can participate but require the consent of a parent or legal guardian. The program’s website warns that Global Entry membership facilitates and speeds up the entry process into the United States through automated kiosks; however, it does not guarantee entry into the country, as the final decision rests with the Immigration officer at the point of entry.
