U.S. Tourist in Critical Condition After Tulum Hotel Fall

Tulum, Mexico — A U.S. national identified as Mía, a transgender woman, is in critical condition after falling from the fourth floor of the Leela Eco Spa Hotel in Tulum. The incident occurred in the La Veleta neighborhood at the intersection of Avenida Guardianes Mayas and Calle 5 Poniente.

Emergency Response and Injuries

The incident was reported to emergency services via 911, prompting the immediate dispatch of medical personnel. Paramedics from RUM and Civil Protection personnel arrived at the scene and provided initial care. Mía sustained severe traumatic brain injury, as well as fractures to her tibia and fibula, after falling approximately 12 meters.

She was transported in code red to CostaMed Hospital in Playa del Carmen, where she remains hospitalized in guarded condition.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have not yet determined whether the fall was accidental, a suicide attempt, or the result of other circumstances. Preliminary reports indicate Mía was a guest at the hotel at the time of the incident.

The case has drawn concern from hotel staff and local residents, who witnessed the emergency response. The State Attorney General’s Office may intervene in the coming hours to assess whether further investigation is warranted.
