Cancún — Thousands of faithful in Cancún united on October 28 to celebrate Saint Jude Thaddeus, the patron saint of difficult and impossible causes, with morning serenades, masses, and processions at chapels of high devotion, such as those located in Region 236 and the Tierra Maya subdivision.
The community's faith was palpable from the early morning hours, with acts of gratitude and promises made for miracles received.
The patron saint's feast day became a collective testimony of gratitude. Some faithful shared stories of healing and protection, reaffirming their unconditional devotion.
Adri Garduza recounted her experience of faith, which dates back ten years: "I came to know him when I had an accident and a person told me to believe in him so that he would help me. After I was operated on, they told me I would not be able to walk, and a month and a half later I was walking again; similarly, he saved my brother from cancer." As a sign of gratitude, she and her family attend mass every Sunday and celebrate the saint each year.
Faith was also manifested in solidarity, as demonstrated by Gerardo Chan, who, together with another family, distributes food to attendees: "We are two families. We got the idea to join together and we bring sandwiches and water for all the people. We have been coming for 5 years, he has helped us a lot, we are very devout believers of Saint Jude."
From Rancho Viejo, Isabel Canul confirmed the strength of promises: "I have had the faith of knowing him for years, but this is the second year we come to fulfill a promise and thank God we have done very well. I ask him for myself, for my children, and blessed be God, right now we are all well."
At the San Judas Tadeo chapel in Region 236, Fray Oscar Alexander Majano Pineda, of the order of Capuchin Friars Minor, exhorted the faithful to maintain a constant and genuine faith, free from superstitions.
"I would like it to be a fervent devotion all year round, not just in this month. I said in the morning homily that we have distorted the image of Saint Jude, thinking that he helps us in bad things or misdeeds that are committed nowadays, and that is not what God wants. The saints should lead us to Christ," he said.
The Fray emphasized that the apostle's function is to be an intercessor, as Saint Jude Thaddeus is "the patron saint of difficult, impossible, or lost causes, the one who is with the people to intercede for them."
