Geny Canto Canto, the national commissioner of the Transport Union of the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM), has refuted claims of targeted violence against mototaxi operators in the city. This comes after a recent attack on a union member. Canto Canto stated that there is no reason to believe that the union members are being specifically targeted or that there is any fear amongst them of potential attacks.

She emphasized that the real issue is a public security crisis on the island. Like most citizens, mototaxi operators are vulnerable to the escalating violence. However, she dismissed the notion that union members are particularly at risk.

Canto Canto referred to the recent attack as an "extraordinary event", refraining from speculating on the motives behind it. She confirmed that the matter is currently under investigation by the authorities. She spoke highly of the attacked operator, describing him as a hardworking and punctual individual with no negative record.

Canto Canto also mentioned that mototaxi operators will continue to take daily precautions, such as being mindful of where they pick up passengers and ceasing services by 10:30 pm. She expressed hope that the presence of state police will help curb the increasing violence in the municipality.

Contrary to initial reports that the attacked operator had died, Canto Canto clarified that he is currently in the hospital recovering from surgery at the Social Security clinic.
