Cancún — Members of the Grupo Centurión of the state Secretariat of Citizen Security, in coordinated work with the Secretariat of the Navy and the Secretariat of National Defense, achieved the detention of two women identified as Celia N and Zitlaly Ariana N in the municipality of Tulum; members of a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel led by “Doña Lety.”
The detention occurred at kilometer 307 of the federal highway Chetumal-Cancún, during a surveillance patrol by security forces.
The uniformed officers surprised the women next to the trunk of a white Volkswagen Jetta vehicle, while exchanging small bags with what appeared to be marijuana.
Upon noticing the presence of the uniformed officers, both attempted to take refuge in the automobile to escape, but the rapid reaction of federal and state elements allowed them to block their path immediately.
During the preventive inspection, officers secured a total of 107 doses of green vegetable with characteristics of marijuana and 18 bags with solid crystalline material similar to crystal meth.
In addition to the narcotics, two cell phones, a handbag, a fanny pack, and the vehicle with Quintana Roo state license plates in which they intended to flee were confiscated.
According to the SSC, both women are part of a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, led by Leticia R. L., alias “Doña Lety”; a group dedicated to drug sales and extortion of merchants in the region through the so-called “derecho de piso” (protection racket).
The detainees and evidence were transferred and made available to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in Combating Retail Drug Trafficking to initiate the corresponding legal process.
