Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Jesús “N” and Tadeo “N”, two of the five alleged individuals linked to the fraudulent financial company UNICAM, have been placed under the custody of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) after being accused of carrying out more than 50 scams involving thousands of pesos that affected the finances of various families in Chetumal over the last 10 months.
They are also accused of verbal and physical aggression against security personnel.
Security elements indicated that the individuals are allegedly under arrest in holding cells, while awaiting the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to advance with corresponding investigations to document evidence of the fraud and scam crimes, from the complaint to judicial proceedings.
Authorities expect judicial personnel to provide more details about the arrest in the coming days.
In this regard, authorities urged citizens to file their respective complaints, as it is presumed that more people are involved in the fraud.
Similarly, it is estimated that the fraud was carried out in different states of the republic, using the modus operandi of a “ghost company.”
It is worth noting that the company’s fraud was uncovered when a citizen complained that the money they had previously loaned never arrived as agreed, a situation that coincided with that of other company clients.
Meanwhile, the victims went to the financial company’s facilities, located on Avenida Paseo De Los Héroes at the intersection of Calle Camelias, in the Centro neighborhood.
In relation to this, Aroón Tun, a victim of the financial company, stated that he used the company’s services after finding their advertisement on social media.
The victim recounted that he had signed a contract to obtain a loan of 80,000 pesos, with interest of 20,000 pesos, a deal that seemed appropriate to him.
He was also convinced to purchase a high-end cellphone at a department store, in exchange for his credit increasing even more, an agreement to which he succumbed.
However, after three days, he reported that the loan never arrived, while the mobile device remained in the company’s possession.
Therefore, other victims went to the financial company’s facilities to complain and demand the return of their invested money.
Pressured by citizens, two of those responsible attempted to flee towards the south of the city to avoid repercussions.
Nevertheless, thanks to the intervention of citizens themselves and security elements, both workers were detained.
