Tulum, Quintana Roo — Authorities have launched a search for two siblings reported missing in Tulum, with investigators looking into the possibility that one of their parents took them without legal authorization.
The State Prosecutor’s Office activated an Amber Alert and the Alba Protocol to expedite the search for 16-year-old Ángela Valentina Álvarez Pérez and her 18-month-old brother, José Antonio Álvarez Pérez. The siblings were last seen on July 20 in the municipality of Tulum and were reported missing the same day.
According to unofficial sources, one of the main lines of investigation suggests that a parent may have taken the children without the consent of the other legal guardian. Officials have not confirmed this theory.
Ángela is described as approximately 5 feet tall, with brown skin, a slim build, short curly black hair, and black eyes. She has a mole under her lip and a burn scar on her right foot. She was last seen wearing a white blouse and floral-print pajama shorts.
José Antonio has light brown skin, a medium build, short straight black hair, and black eyes. He has a scratch on his forehead. The clothing he was wearing at the time of his disappearance is unknown.
The State Prosecutor’s Office is continuing its investigation and has asked the public for help locating the siblings. Anyone with information is urged to contact the prosecutor’s office or call 911. Officials said all tips will be treated confidentially and that search protocols remain active until the children are found.
