Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — An Egyptian man died Tuesday inside a house that authorities suspect was operating as an unlicensed rehabilitation center in the El Pedregal neighborhood.
The property, located on Calle 36 between Avenidas 60 and 65, was not registered as a specialized rehab facility but as a private residence, officials said.
According to initial reports, the facility’s staff notified the victim’s family of his death. Relatives told investigators that the man had been admitted to the location for addiction treatment. They have requested an autopsy to determine whether he had any bruises or other injuries, raising questions about the circumstances of his death.
Forensic experts and investigators from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office arrived at the scene to collect evidence and open an inquiry into the cause of death. Authorities are working to confirm whether any irregularities occurred at the site.
