Cancún, Mexico — Two young men were shot in Cancún's Region 234 in a violent attack that left one dead after he desperately called his mother for help. The incident occurred Sunday night, marking another tragic episode in the city’s ongoing wave of violence.
A Deadly Ambush Outside a Taquería
The shooting took place around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of 20 de Noviembre and Rancho Viejo avenues. The victims had just finished eating at a taquería when two assailants on a black motocross-style motorcycle opened fire at close range without warning.
One of the young men managed to flee to his home in Region 233, narrowly escaping by locking the gate behind him. The attackers fired at the façade before fleeing. The second victim, identified as 24-year-old Juan Alberto, ran to a nearby open store in Block 38 for refuge but was pursued and fatally shot inside.
A Final Plea for Help
Despite his injuries, Juan Alberto called his parents to reveal his location. By the time they arrived, he had succumbed to his wounds. Authorities cordoned off the crime scene, and personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office collected evidence and removed the body.
The attack has left another family grieving as violence continues to plague Cancún. No arrests have been reported in connection with the shooting.
