Quintana Roo Athletes Aim for Pan Am Games Glory

Chetumal, Mexico — Swimmer Andrés Dupont Cabrera and sailor Jerónimo Abogado Irishstephenson have been confirmed as members of Mexico’s national delegation for the second edition of the Junior Pan American Games, scheduled to take place from August 9 to 23 in Asunción, Paraguay.

State Support for Athletes

In alignment with the New Agreement for Wellbeing and Development promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, the Quintana Roo Sports Commission, led by Jacobo Arzate Hop, has implemented initiatives such as sports scholarships to support athletes from the state.

Both athletes were officially notified by their respective federations to join the 378-member Mexican team competing in the continental event, where they will aim to secure medals for the country.

Dupont’s Recent Achievements

Andrés Dupont recently returned from the World Aquatics Championships, where he delivered a strong performance in relay events. Swimming competitions at the Pan American Games are set to take place from August 10 to 14.

Abogado’s Sailing Ambitions

Jerónimo Abogado Irishstephenson has established himself as Quintana Roo’s top sailing athlete and will seek to make an impact on the international stage. Sailing events are scheduled for August 15 to 17.

Pathway to the 2028 Olympics

The Junior Pan American Games serve as a critical stepping stone in the competition cycle leading up to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, offering athletes the opportunity to earn ranking points and improve their international standings.
