Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Two motorcyclists were injured after crashing while trying to evade a DUI checkpoint in Playa Del Carmen, authorities reported.

The incident occurred on Avenida Colosio at Calle Loros, where the young riders lost control on a dirt road while attempting to avoid a police checkpoint where officers were conducting breathalyzer tests. Witnesses said the motorcyclists appeared to be trying to flee the Municipal Traffic Police operation, which was set up to detect drunk drivers over the weekend.

Red Cross paramedics provided first aid at the scene before transporting both injured individuals to a hospital for medical treatment. Police officers who responded launched an investigation into the crash.

Municipal Traffic Police later ordered the motorcycles towed to an impound lot for damage assessment and to determine liability.
