Cancún, Quintana Roo — Two officers from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office have been arrested for allegedly extorting a woman in Cancún. Authorities confirmed the apprehension of Armando René "N" and Mario Carlos "N" this morning. The officers reportedly demanded 250,000 pesos from the victim in exchange for not executing a supposed arrest warrant against her.
Threats and Intimidation Tactics
The incident occurred on June 21, when the two officers—identified as investigative police assigned to Cancún’s hotel zone—arrived at the victim’s residence in Supermanzana 251. They threatened to detain her, claiming she was the subject of multiple criminal investigations. To "resolve" the issue, they demanded 250,000 pesos in exchange for allegedly destroying the case files.
In the following days, the victim received threatening messages via WhatsApp. One of the officers even visited the workplace of the woman’s daughter, pressuring her by warning she would lose her job if the money was not delivered.
Arrests Follow Internal Investigation
After the victim filed a formal complaint, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes initiated an investigation and secured arrest warrants, which were approved by a judge. Both officers were taken into custody and placed at the disposal of judicial authorities.
Quintana Roo Attorney General Raciel López Salazar emphasized that no individual is above the law in the state. He stated that the Attorney General’s Office operates strictly within legal boundaries, free from external influence or privilege, and remains committed to justice and transparency.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to address corruption within law enforcement agencies in Quintana Roo. Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance policy for abuses of power.
