Cancun, Quintana Roo — Two people died Friday night after a speeding SUV crashed into palm trees on Boulevard Kukulcán in Cancun’s Hotel Zone.
The driver of a black Cadillac Escalade lost control while heading toward Cancun International Airport, according to preliminary reports. The vehicle left the roadway at kilometer 19 and struck several palm trees.
Firefighters, paramedics, transit officers and tourist police responded to the scene. Emergency crews found the driver and a passenger without vital signs; one of the victims was trapped inside the vehicle.
Authorities cordoned off the area while investigators and agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office carried out their work. The victims, who have not been identified, were taken to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO).
The SUV was removed by a tow truck and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office as part of the investigation.
