Two Jailed for Extortion of Quintana Roo Shipping Executive

A control judge ordered the linking to process against María Frine “N” and Jorge Luis “N” for their probable involvement in acts possibly constituting the crime of extortion, to the detriment of a victim with reserved identity.

After analyzing the evidence provided by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), through the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes, the judge determined that there is sufficient evidence linking both individuals to the crime of extortion.

The now accused are alleged to have committed acts starting on July 3 of this year, when the affected party, who is a shareholder of a shipping company, carried out an audit process to examine financial statements.

During this audit, an unauthorized capital flow movement was found, amounting to 140 million pesos.

Subsequently, on September 22, the victim received various calls and messages demanding that he stop the audit operation, with the argument that there were “conflicting interests.” Days later, the threats continued.

On September 30, an employee of the shipping company was leaving his home when two individuals on a motorcycle intercepted him and mentioned that they had a message for the victim, while showing him a firearm.

It should be noted that the now accused Jorge Luis “N” worked as an administrator in the company and, together with María Frine “N”, had a meeting with their accomplice Héctor Alejandro “N”, in which they planned the extortion acts against the victim.

After the legal proceedings, in a hearing, the judicial authority determined the linking to process for María Frine “N” and Jorge Luis “N”, additionally imposing the precautionary measure of preventive prison for the duration of the judicial process.
