Yucatán, Mexico — Saturday, January 10, was marked as a fatal day in Yucatán with the deaths of two people in separate traffic accidents, one registered in the municipality of Kanasín and another on the Mérida–Cancún highway, occurring hours apart.

In both cases, emergency services responded to the locations but could only confirm the victims’ deaths. Authorities are already investigating how the incidents occurred and are conducting investigations to determine liability.

What Happened on the Mérida–Cancún Highway?

The first tragic accident occurred on Saturday afternoon on the Mérida–Cancún highway at kilometer 11, where a person lost their life after being run over by a vehicle that had the right of way.

Witnesses indicated that the deceased was known by the nickname “El Oso,” although their official identity has not been confirmed at this time. Emergency service personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed the death.

How Did the Accident Where a Motorcyclist Died in Kanasín Occur?

The second incident was recorded in the Francisco Villa neighborhood of Kanasín, on Calle 55, heading towards the Periférico. According to reports, a motorcyclist attempted to overtake a red Hyundai car on the right side, causing a rear-end collision.

After the impact, the motorcyclist lost control, mounted the sidewalk, and ended up crashing, sustaining serious injuries. Paramedics arrived at the site but could only confirm that the individual no longer showed vital signs.

What Do Authorities Say About These Accidents in Yucatán?

In both cases, authorities reported that investigations have already been initiated to clarify how the events occurred and determine possible responsibilities. Forensic experts collected evidence, and the bodies were transported for legal procedures.

These incidents add to other traffic accidents recorded in the state, prompting a renewed call to drive with caution, respect speed limits, and maintain constant attention on the streets and highways of Yucatán.
