Police officers and seized vehicles on a Cancún street following the investigation into a woman's killing in Supermanzana 38

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Police detained two suspects and seized two vehicles after a woman was shot dead in this resort city on Saturday morning, authorities said.

The attack took place on Calle Hobompich in Supermanzana 38, where the woman was killed in a hail of gunfire. Investigators opened a homicide case and began reviewing footage from the city’s C5 video surveillance network to trace the route the attackers took as they fled.

The footage led officers to a Vortex motorcycle on Calle Yaxché, at its intersection with Avenida Comalcalco in Supermanzana 58. According to the investigation, the motorcycle was used to move the assailants away from the scene and was abandoned shortly afterward.

State Investigation Police officers assigned to the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office went to the site and secured the vehicle. As part of the inquiry, investigators interviewed several residents of the area, who told them they had seen a man leave the motorcycle at the spot and then walk away.

Officers continued searching the surrounding streets and located a pickup truck that is also believed to be connected to the killing. The truck was seized as part of the effort to solve the case.

Police sources said the operation resulted in the detention of two people. Both were handed over to prosecutors, who will determine their legal status as the investigation moves forward.

Detectives are still working to establish what role the two detainees played and how the seized vehicles were used during the escape.
