Tulum Taxi Union to Launch Xook App With Real-Time GPS Tracking

Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Tiburones del Caribe taxi union is preparing to launch a new ride service built around a mobile app that will let passengers see the real-time location of its vehicles and give them more certainty when booking a cab in Tulum.

Union general secretary Manuel Enrique Solís Alcocer said the project is in its final stage and the app is expected to be presented in about a month.

He said the platform will be called Xook, a Maya word meaning “shark” in Spanish, and will be a technological tool aimed at providing a more efficient, secure and transparent service for users.

“A lot of things are coming; right now the most concrete thing is that in a month we will launch our own app, which is Xook, which in Spanish is shark,” the union leader said.

Solís Alcocer said every vehicle taking part in the program will be equipped with a GPS system, allowing users to check the location of the taxis in real time and see how close the unit they requested is.

According to the union leader, the technology is also intended to make it easier for users to decide when to request a ride, by offering precise information on the availability and proximity of taxis.

He said one of the main goals is to build greater trust between passengers and drivers.
